Well, the easy answer is no. In the U.S. each state has their own rules concerning service of court papers. In New Jersey, it is by process server, regular or certified mail. Sometimes even by publication in the newspaper.
The UK has taken a different approach to serving legal papers. A Judge in England’s High Court, has decided that facebook is good for more than just updating the world on your life. The Court allowed attorneys to log onto facebook to serve commercial litigation papers.
This may be the start of a new court rule concerning service. For those of us in New Jersey, we must use the methods we have been using for years.
